Doors
Making sure your
home is secure is one
of the most important
household tasks. So
looking after your
doors and windows,
which are the first lines
of defence, is essential
The basic maintenance of external doors
centres on keeping them well coated so
they’re protected from the elements.
But if the paint is badly deteriorated
and the door is delaminating at the
bottom due to moisture, the only thing
you can do is replace the door. This
problem is common on exterior laundry
and bathroom doors - luckily, it’s quite
simple to replace a door, although it
can be somewhat time consuming.
Make sure your new door is exactly
the right size or slightly larger, as a
smaller door will not seal against the
jambs and you will have nowhere to go
if anything is not square. ►
1. Flaking paint can be easily fixed, but
once a door starts to delaminate at the
bottom, it's time to buy a new door.
